Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince pushed back until July 2009

Looks like The Dark Knight has made TOO MUCH money... I didn't know that was possible. So... because it has made so much money for Warner Brothers this year, their shareholders are happy... which means they are pushing The Half Blood Prince back until July of next year to insure they have a money maker for next summer. Also... the movie won't be going against the 007: The Quantom Solace... so it can be on more screens that way. My question is this... is there nothing huge coming out next July?

What do the Warners have left this year? What do they have next year and what are they competing against? )

- I should not eat eggs or cereal w/milk ever. Especially before bed on a school night.

- I'm in the Rebel Legion now. I rule at being a dork!

- I love that I've finally got the whole downloading/copying of movies to the PS3 down... it's awesome.

- Bethany and I have had fun cuddling on the loveseat watching downloaded movies. We even stopped by the theater to get our popcorn bucket filled... clever girl.

- BSG is still entirely too far away... 150 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes... (assuming it starts on Friday, January 9th, 2009)

- The new Harry Potter movie is 100 days away... that's odd.

- Dragon*Con is 16 days away... HOLY SHIT I have a lot to get done!

- I'm doing well at work this month... wtf?!

- Tropic Thunder comes out tomorrow... woooooo!

- Hofmann's birthday is next month... I can't believe it's almost been a year since the party last year... ughh I hate getting older.

- I can dance if I want to.

Holy crap this thing is awesome!

Passwords can be hacked, but not the IronKey. It's built to withstand attacks both virtual and physical. 10 incorrect password attempts, and the encryption chip self-destructs, making the contents of the flash drive totally unreadable. The contents of the drive are filled with epoxy, so if a hacker tries to physically access the chips, he'd more likely damage them instead. Even if he did get access to the memory chips, they'd be worthless without the encryption chip. Electron-shielded, even a scanning electron microscope can't get inside.

Anniversary Time

love
Last night we went to PF Chang's and had some tasty treats. We started with Crab Wontan's... mmmmm plum sauce. Then for our main course I had my typical Shrimp Fried Rice and Bethany had delicious Mongolian Beef. We were going to have one of their new $2 mini desserts... but then the server decided to buy us dessert for our anniversary. He brought us out a chocolate cake with raspberry sauce on it and some fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Mmmmmmmmmm. Oddly enough the cake at our wedding was chocolate raspberry.

After that we went and got our awesome couch (which took almost 2 hours)... then headed home and cuddled up on the loveseat and watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall. That movie was frakking funny as hell. I was really surprised by it since I knew basically nothing about it. It's not very often I get that luxury.

We ended up sleeping in until 8:30 and making it in quite late to work. Needless to say we've been late to work about 2-3 hours almost everyday this week... bad part is we have to work later to make it up... blah.

The end.

p.s. I finally pimped out my livejournal with a Superbad moodtheme!

Woo New Couch!

So our old couch broke and after what seemed like a year of waiting, we finally got a call saying we had a large credit at the store to get a new one... well we went a little over that... just a tad... but holy shitsbomb it's the best thing ever.

In the picture where the lady (not included) is sitting... the chase... that reclines... the opposite end reclines and also one of the seats that next to the middle reclines too... yeah... I have a feeling we're going to have a bunch of people over asleep on those soon.

They will be delivered (got that for free) sometime within the month (blah).

I'll post about our awesome night out in a bit.

We're going to PF Changs and Chang'n it up... then we are off to see Gonzo, a documentary about Hunter S. Thompson. And believe it or not, she planned all this. Wooooo!

Pineapple Express

Smart jokes. Dick jokes. Unapologetic violence. Intense action.

Holy shit. What is with this summer? Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Wall-E, Hellboy II have already set the bar high... and now Pineapple Express... wow they have set the bar for comedy quite high indeed (pun intended). We still have Zack & Miri Make a Porno (I know it's not out 'til Halloween) and Tropic Thunder. This summer has delivered more quality blockbusters than the past several years combined. Well... at least I think so.

Pineapple Express could have easily been every cliché stoner movie... a couple of stoners inadvertently get involved in something that is bigger than them and shenanigans ensue. This movie could have been of the same caliber as Harold and Kumar or Half Baked or any number of campy stoner flicks... but it wasn't. David Gordon Green directing, Judd Apatow producing, Seth Rogen and Evan writing.... that right there is enough to make anything worth it. James Franco probably didn't have too much trouble "acting" for this part, but wow, he was so amazingly funny and clueless and sad and cute all at once... he was like the stoner version of Wall-E... ha! Seth Rogen was a badass. The whole cast owned. Everyone was perfect in their parts. Bill Hader owned the first 10 minutes... best intro ever. I was really thinking that the way the movie started... that is was going to be like that the whole time and be a big joke on everyone.

Let's talk about the things that do and don't phase you when your watching the movie. Seth Rogen's girlfriend is in high school, yes I said that, high school. They clear it up by making sure you know she is 18 and even though he is 25, it's legal. They completely stop caring about that nonsense shortly there after when they literally sell and smoke weed with grade school kids in what was one the funniest things I've ever seen. There is just so much going on that you don't even think of how terrible it is what they are doing. The things that catch you off guard are the explosions, limbs blown off, people being shot in the head and stomach among other places, kicks to the groin and several other things that normally would never be in a pot movie. Pineappe is a full on buddy-comedy-action flick.... and they just happen to get high in it... a lot... much like The Dark Knight is a really good crime drama... and their just happens to be a couple of people in weird costumes. Yup, I just compared this to the Dark Knight. I've lost my mind in the awesome that is this summer.

Funniest movie since Superbad. I must go see this 3-4 more times.

Wilco Tango Foxtrot....

  • Aug. 5th, 2008 at 12:09 PM
regret
Yesterday was the day two of the "Three Nights of Win"... and wow... let's hope Pineapple Express makes up for it.

Let me preface this a little bit... I've seen Wilco 5 times now. First show was with Bethany and Tony. We drove out to Pittsburgh a few weeks before we got married. It was a free show as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival... it was awesome. I'm pretty sure Jeff Tweedy was still battling addiction at this point. Awesome show... right before A Ghost is Born came out... but we had a bootleg copy of it, so we knew all the songs. Awesome show, great energy. Rank - ****/*****

Show number two was only a few months later... we were living in Vincennes at the time(worst) and made the short drive down to Nashville to see Joseph Arthur and Wilco at this place called the Uptown Mix. It was an outdoor show that cost all of $15. We got there early, heard the whole soundcheck and I even met the band. We were front row, resting on the stage, for this show. Another perfect setlist... with a great crowd and spectacular energy from the band. Rank *****/*****

Show number three was Lollapalooza 2006. Wilco in Chicago=win. This time it was me, Bethany, Smitty and Tristan. Wasn't the best setlist in the world, since they were working on new material... but it was still a great time. They were so happy to be playing at home and the crowd ate it up. Jeff's wife and family were there and he appeared to be doing a lot better. He looked like a leprechaun for this show... don't know why I remember that. Rank ***/*****

Show number four was Bonnaroo 2007. Bethany wasn't feeling well, so she stayed at the hotel, so it was Sam, Billy and I. Pretty much the same show as Lollapalooza but with a slightly more relaxed Bonnaroo feel to it. Rank ***/*****

Last night... wow... I don't know what happened. Worst. Terrible setlist. No energy until the last half hour. I mean I know that Wilco has a lot of slower f'd up songs, but you mix those in with the upbeat ones to keep the energy from being sucked out of the venue. Some of it wasn't their fault. There was a bonkers amount of gnats and other bugs flooding the stage. It was like Indiana Jones scary up there. That was a bit distracting I bet. Other than that and the humidity... they really dropped the ball. It wasn't all bad though. Hoodoo Voodoo was unreal. Never heard that one before. I'm The Man Who Loves You was sweet since the guys on Horns were there. They played Don't Forget the Flowers... which was a nice little treat (since I spammed their setlist voting site for it) and also Casino Queen which rocked the fuck out. They didn't play Hummingbird, I've Got You (at the end of the century), Theologians, Red-Eyed Blue and a handful of others I was really surprised didn't make the setlist. Rank **/****

We were just so befuddled with what had happened...I guess they can't all be winners.

Tonite... at midnite... Pineapple Express... so far Bethany and I are going... as well as Smitty, Bobby, Jubal and Andy Ferguson. We shall see who else shows up. Can't wait!

Radiohead @ Deer Creek

Last night I witnessed the single greatest concert I have ever been to in my life. I've been to something like 150 concerts at this point and nothing... and I mean nothing has ever been amazing as Radiohead.

What goes into the rankings for a perfect show you ask? Don't worry baby birds, I'll feed ya.

Crowd - the people at this show were the best. Most awesome group of people there ever. Generally there is a huge chunk of the population of concert goers I can't stand...however, about 95% of the people at this show were people I would probably hang out with. Also, no one was chanting obvious requests of singles. No one was yelling for Creep. Upon the start of each song, pretty sure everyone... but at least the people surrounding us, the crowd was so please with every song. Seriously pleased and excited and so thankful. No idiots=good time.

Venue - Honestly... there isn't a better place that I've been to than Deer Creek. You've probably already read my love letters to the place. Perfect venue and also fairly decent weather. A little warm, but no rain and no clouds.

Lightshow - This won't make too much sense until I post videos/pics tomorrow, but wow... omg wow. They had a method of hanging light cord things that basically resulted in a 3D light show. Before this show, Incubus was always #1 when it came most pretty light show... this was just as pretty and totally fucked in the head... but in a good way... I don't care if you were drunk, stoned or sober... this light show sucked you in like Tron.

Setlist - Not only did I have no clue what was coming, I was so pleasantly surprised with every song I couldn't contain myself. The show flowed together like no other show that I have ever seen. The element of surprise was out of this world. I've only seen Radiohead live stuff from SNL or random TV shows and stuff... I had no idea how different some songs were and how they added all these crazy wonky endings that made your head explode like that scene in Re-Animator. I'll post the setlist at the end under a cut.

Energy - Radiohead has never played here... and barely anywhere near here. So... there was a crowd of people who have been waiting 10-15 years for this night. I mean hell... I got Kid A in what... 2000? And if you had told me then that I would have to wait 8 years to hear those songs live I would have gone crazy. The crowd was on fire with every little nuance. You could feel the energy in the air as though you told everyone they just won the lottery. I heard a guy say this "Do you think that Heaven is just Radiohead playing all the time?" I had to agree with that.

The Band - Radiohead. Legendary. One of the few bands ever to continually create new, interesting, catchy but still out there music that leaves you asking for more. Between Thom Yorke's incredible vocals and crazy person head body shaking dances and Johnny Greenwood's Mad Scientist-like face melting rock... wow. There was one point where Johnny was playing guitar and using the headstock to hit notes on the piano... I'm not kidding. Colin's exceptional bass playing and random instruments (even some that looked like old school phone switchboards)... Ed O'Brien backup vocals were just as haunting as Thom's at points and of course... Phil Selway knocking the shit out of the drums like he was trying to kill them. Everything meshed together like no other band I've seen. It was beautiful. Stunning.

Bethany decided Bobby would appreciate seeing the show more than her, so she gave him her ticket. We had an epic journey of win. Unfortunately we couldn't find Andy and Tony, and we were snubbed by the people we did know... but fuck it... we had the best time ever. He had never been to Deer Creek before and now I don't if he can go back because nothing can top that.

I still can't believe that I've been lucky enough to see Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Dave and this show all in one summer. Wilco is tonite and Pineapple Express on Wednesday. After this, I'm screwed.... DragonCon only a few weeks away.... shit.

P.S.... Tristan... do you know the song Bangers and Mash? If not, download it!

Saturday mornings...

Chris New York
If you noticed in the last entry I said I was feeling nostalgic... so I started looking up old cartoons and noticed a bunch of the cartoons I watched were made by DIC... turns out they pumped every random show ever that I watched. This list started as something different, so I will try to finish it this week with what I originally intended. Everything but the Back to the Future cartoon was made by DIC.

1990 and before
-The Real Ghostbusters, 140 episodes. Lorzeno Music was the voice of Venkman. He also voiced Garfield. Bill Murray played Venkman in the movie. He also voiced Garfield in the live action movie. Turns out Dave Coulier voiced Venkman too... and Arseno Hall was Winston!?
-G.I. Joe, 44 episodes. Classic. And they only waited about 20 years to make the live action movie.
-Inspector Gadget, 86 episodes. This show was on from 1983-86!? Must have been on re-runs forever.
-Dennis the Menace, 78 episodes. This was on weekdays before school... this and Garfield and Friends.
-Camp Candy, 39 episodes. John Candy running a summer camp!? I'm sure The Great Outdoors and Uncle Buck weren't the inspiration for this at all.
-The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. 65 episodes. Lou Albana+Nintendo+Cartoons=win.
-The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, 26 episodes. Remember the one where they went to the Tetris world?

1991
They really hit the Chris Baker demographic in 1991. To this day I still vividly remember watching these cartoons on Saturday mornings.

-Back the Future: The Animated Series, 26 episodes. I wish this show was still on today. Why did all these shows in 1991 only last 1-2 seasons? Didn't they know I was watching?
Random fun fact about the show )

-Where's Waldo, 13 episodes. Featuring the voice work of Brad Garrett as Wizard Whitebeard.
-Super Mario World , 13 episodes. I honestly never get tired of animated Mario adventures.
-Wish Kid starring Macaulay Culkin, 13 episodes. Magic baseball glove of awesome.
-ProStars, 13 episodes. Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson and Wayne Gretzky save the world. Must read these character bios )

1992
Super Dave: Daredevil for Hire , 13 episodes. No one else seems to remember this but me. Thanks to this cartoon my interest in Curb Your Enthusiasm has stayed high since he's super funny on there.

1993
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, 65 episodes. I don't remember this one too well... but I was obsessed with the Sega games, so I know that I watched this... just don't remember too much about it.

1994
-Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?, 40 episodes, The cartoon was "where on Earth" not "where in the world." I think I had a crush on her as a kid... maybe I just liked looking at maps.

So yeah... DIC totally owned. More to come later.

...that totally changes my feelings about Carmen Sandiego.
Chris Bethany
What a show... what a show indeed. We rolled into Deer Creek rather late this time. We were both so tired from the night before that sleeping became paramount. I had dropped Sean off at the campground earlier in the day so he could meet up with some of his friends and whatnot, so it was just Bethany and I this time. I don't remember if we were looking to meet up with Sean or just roaming around, but we ran into Alexis Henderson and Sophia (Sofa) Jarrett. Bethany made the good decision to just hang out with them all night. That was a great decision, I love old friends like that... you don't seem them for years, but it doesn't matter, it's as if no time has passed.

That's one of the great things I love about going to Dave shows. It's become such a tradition for us. We could go with 10 friends or none and still end up finding people to sit with and have a great time.

I love everything about the concert experience. I love the walk from the car to the front gate... passing countless drunk/stoned people, people playing frisbee or cornhole, people blaring music, people going for their first time... ahh to goto a concert for the first time again... that would be a treat. I love laughing at the bonkers line for the women's restroom, I love the shock of how much beer is each year, I love overhearing so many different conversations people are having... so many different groups of people and friends or family or any number of things. Some people are meeting up with others, some are trying to hook up, some just got dumped or in a fight, some don't know where they are, too many are there just to party and some... just some are there for a great concert. I love that no guy is capable of remembering that bathrooms keep going back for what seems like forever... I love all the promo people (and I miss doing that too).

I love going to see another concert with my wife. Another great concert filled with amazing songs, people and zomg... great weather!

It is also really nice that we've heard basically every song we'll ever need to hear over the years of shows we've been to. That is nice because it affords us the luxury of making the all important decision of when to goto the restroom and if we should leave during the last song.

Speaking of leaving the show... I kinda miss the long waits in the parking lot. We would usually reflect on the show and just spend a lot of time talking and resting our legs... but now with the new roads we can be home in 15 minutes. Yeah... 15 minutes... that's nuts! It's weird to be home within minutes of seeing a show, doing your regular daily life things... it makes it feel like you didn't go.. maybe I'm just weird.

So yeah... all in all it was a frakking amazing show. A little more than a half hour shorter than last night... but come on... we saw about 4.5 hours of DMB in the past 2 days... heh. Granny was a treat, the Money-medley was totally fun, I was in the frakking bathroom when Rapunzel came on... grrr... but I still got to sing it with the drunk folks on the way back... Lie in Our Graves was SOOOOO MUCH BETTER without Butch (I know that totally negates what I said yesterday, but I think it just took getting used to)... Anyone Seen the Bridge jam into the intro of Too Much (which was a fakeout) into Ants was BANANAS! I'm never surprised at shows! Only big complaint of these shows was the weak encores. I don't care to ever hear Sister again... once was enough... and believe me, the fifth time didn't make it better. So yeah... good times all around.

Before I end this entry, let me leave you with this...

Apparently I poured a beer into my water cup from work while we were in the parking lot before the show last night. I forgot about this... so now, as I am typing this bonkers long entry, I'm enjoying beer flavored ice water. Nice.

Sore

Went to Dave Matthews Band at Deer Creek last night with Sean and Adrienne. It was an okay show... pretty decent setlist with the exception of the encore. Jeff Coffin was sitting in for Leroi due to his current punctured lung... and zomg... Jeff is incredible. So much energy.. he even played with 2 saxes at the same time at one point. Finally seeing Tim play with the band was awesome too. If you haven't heard Tim Reynolds play then there is no reason for me to try and explain.

Weird though... Butch Taylor, the old keyboards player, is not with them anymore... I thought I'd be really happy about that. Honestly... it turns out... you could really tell he wasn't there. He added ambient noise... ya know... random little things like strings or small piano parts here and there... and wow, after not hearing them, I can really say that I miss it. Also the crowd had a weird vibe last night... maybe it was just the idiots we were around. Should have taken Sean's advice and sat further back.

Speaking of Sean... poor guy... he got super dehydrated and had to sit out the first half hour of the show. Thankfully he got to feeling a little better and after some much needed rest today I think he'll be good to go tonite.

Oh yeah... I brought my digital camera last night, like I have for the past 4 years, had it IN MY HAND as I was checked by security... clearly I wasn't trying to hide anything. I got in and then one the inept employees threw a big fit about how he couldn't believe I snuck the camera in and how Dave doesn't want cameras and how it's not their rule.. "IT'S DAVE'S RULE!" "Hey look what this guy got RIGHT PASSED SECURITY!" I was incredibly cooperative and kept saying, I wasn't sneaking it in, I've always brought it... to which he says "You've never had a camera here before!" And I said, then how I have I taken thousands of pictures? He refused to believe that it was possible... oh and then I had to check the camera at customer service or whatever to pick it up later... I got the same treatment there and they really thought I was trying to take pictures from the lawn to sell and make money or something. RETARDS. Tonight I need to remember to stick that baby up my ass.

Other random notes from last night:
-Traffic was magical and took minutes to get out
-Waffle House is ALWAYS a good idea
-You get the cans of beer now... no longer in a cup (also to which they acted like we were insane when we said they've never done that before... but what would I know?)
-Lawn hurts feet
-Great weather ftw
-Brought the wrong night's tickets... but took care of that
-Nothing says summer like a DMB concert with my lady!

p.s. putting firefox on a thumbdrive gives me full access to the internet at work...

How about a magic trick?

Holy lack of sleep Batman! Saw The Dark Knight in IMAX again last night... this time with Bobby and Sean. Good times had by all. Once again it was another sold out event. IMAX theater seats 450 some odd people and by 8 the 9:15 show only had 94 seats left. We got there around 8:40 and after we got our tickets there were only 9 left or something... bananas... still got great seats. There is something to be said about a movie that is different everytime you see it. The first time it's shocking. The second time the shock factor is gone and you start to notice the amazing storytelling. The third time, at least for me, allowed to me pick apart small details and watch for all the easter eggs. Oh and btw... there is no Jervis Tech (aka the Madhatter) and I still didn't see the Scarecrow at the end. I'll check for that next time.... yes... next time.

Why is there so much going on today? We're going to see Dave Matthews Band with Adrienne and Sean and countless others we're likely to run into... but here is what we aren't doing:

-Seeing Stepbrothers
-Seeing The X-Files 2
-Toys R' Us Midnite trooping
-AutoVaughn CD Release party @ The Vogue
-James Bond Concert @ Conner Prairie

That is far too many things I like in one day.

Odd....

Tigh
I had a dream that it was raining cats and bats. The streets were littered with them. It was gross. Then Bethany said... well watch out for that sheep with plate armor... and then SPLAT... teh gross.

My dreams have taken an odd turn as of late. It used to be that I they were still super weird, but there was some kind of plot... now it's just nonsense.

It's really strange to me that Dave is tomorrow. I know I've said a few things about it on here or if you see me irl... but it's weird because for once it hasn't really crossed my mind. I haven't been listening to them a lot lately, which just happens with every band I love, but yeah... maybe it's because I've been to more than 150 concerts now that they just don't have the same effect they once did. That is something I wish I could have again... kinda like seeing a movie for the first time... except for The Dark Knight... that just gets better each time.

Someone please invent a copy of Text Twist I can play at work.

In WoW news.... I got a ring, cloak and bracers from Karazhan. The bracers are just slightly better than what I had. On my quest to be completely epic'd out I just need new trinkets, one ring and the belt that I'm farming the mats for. I don't know if anyone will really care about this paragraph.

Starflyer 59 is a really cool band. They have this song where part of the music sounds like that thing from Willy Wonka... "...pure imagination..."

We've been considering moving to New York in two years. May or may not happen... who knows... I think I just want to be able to up and leave if we want to... I've been having the trapped homeowner blues lately. It's nice having our own home and whatnot, but sometimes I wish we didn't have to worry about the responsibility that goes along with it. Not to mention the whole point of owning a home, growing equity, isn't happening for us or really anyone right now. And that is about all you will ever hear me saying about the "housing crisis" ever.

Hofmann and I did another podcast for the 501st. Those are always so much fun. Sean told me Martin wants Sean and I to be a comedy duo... I would play guitar and Sean would sing. That would be awesome. Bobby and I could do that as well. I also really wish I would get my shit together and finally bring Void in Rhode Island to fruition. Did I use that word correctly?

I also wish that Bethany/Bobby would do a CD together. I would like at least the following songs on there: Raising Sand (Allison Kraus and Robert Plant), Forget the Flowers (Wilco), something from the Once soundtrack... well dammit I had a bunch more ideas, but alas... they are now gone.

This summer has been bananas.

The Dark Knight

Joker
We saw The Dark Knight on Friday... and omg... best ever. I feel like this is the feeling people had when they saw Empire Strikes Back... except with the added inflation of violence and heartache. I honestly like someone kicked my in the stomach as I left the theater. I guess other than everything... I loved how real the movie felt. I can't really think of much in that movie that didn't feel like it couldn't happen. The amazing, or lack thereof, special effects were great. I've been saying it for years... actually since Episode 1 came out... if they could make movies like Clash of the Titans or Star Wars or Tron or 2001 when they did... and look so amazing then and some of them still holding up to today's standards... why not use the same methods, updated with current technology (not cgi) and make something equally as awesome that doesn't look fake. I like the idea of only using CGI when ABSOLUTELY necessary. Chris Nolan is my hero. He must have used the Riddler from Batman Forever's mind tool and read my thoughts to find out how to make the perfect Batman movie. Yes... I am taking credit for it.

Oh... and if you don't know... Hofmann has a stage of drunkness... the cartwheel being the most epic... but one his favorites is the "Magic Trick"... which honestly I don't think is anything because I don't seem to be able to remember it... granted I was probably drunk at the time... but he said this:

"I decided that I can no longer have magic trick as one of my stages of
drunkenness on account people might be afraid I'm going to kill them."
